Harvard-educated attorney Seth Abramson has raised concerns about Elon Musk’s mental health, suggesting he may be “going mad.” Abramson, who identified himself as a Musk biographer, shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) stating that he has been tracking the billionaire’s behavior for the last two years.
“I legitimately believe Elon Musk may be going mad,” Abramson wrote in the post.
He also highlighted the wider repercussions of Musk’s alleged mental decline, pointing to Musk’s history of drug use, mental illness, and high-stress lifestyle to emphasize his point.
“I’m a Musk biographer who has been tracking his online behavior for the last two years—and given that he’s admitted to all of mental illness, heavy drug use, and crippling stress, it is now reasonable to fear he is deeply unwell,” he wrote in his X post.
“Protect America From Elon Musk”
A graduate of Harvard Law School, Abramson claimed that Musk’s private struggles could have dramatic public consequences. Musk is the world’s richest man, the CEO of the electric car company Tesla, and owner/founder of SpaceX. President-elect Donald Trump has announced that Musk will be part of his new administration when he takes power in late January.
Musk has been appointed to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) alongside Vivek Ramaswamy. DOGE will not be an actual federal executive department but rather a presidential advisory commission. The United States Congress would need to approve the creation of a new federal executive department.
The word “doge” was originally a meme about a dog in Japan and later became associated with a cryptocurrency called “dogecoin.” Musk is known to be a fervent supporter of cryptocurrencies.
Since Musk owns X, formerly Twitter, a globally influential social media platform, he holds immense power over public opinion.
Abramson wrote on X: “His holdings across many civilization-essential industries and the fact he’s the incoming POTUS mean that his madness and increasing incitement of violence endanger us all.”
The dig at Musk being the “real” president coming into power instead of Trump is a common assertion by many on X.
Abramson also argued that America needs to be protected from Musk before the Trump administration takes over.
“For 14 days more the administration is in a position to take urgent action to protect America from Elon Musk. That could include ending all U.S. contracts with him, filing lawsuits to block his unconstitutional DOGE initiative, and launching new federal and natsec investigations,” Abramson wrote.
Despite this appeal, Abramson acknowledges that nothing will likely be done to prevent Musk from entering the administration.
Other People Agree With Abramson
In the comments under Abramson’s post, several people agreed with his opinion. Many asked why the billionaire is not spending his time on a private island instead of arguing with social media trolls, which Musk does daily.
Musk has averaged 62 posts per day over the last week, according to a tracking website.
“The world’s richest man could be someone great—but instead, turns out to be a thin-skinned drug-addled Bond villain,” commented one X user.
“He is a billionaire, why doesn’t he buy a private island and spend the rest of his life growing vegetables and walking on the beach? It’s what I would do,” said another poster.
Musk has also drawn criticism for going on a posting spree about politics in the United Kingdom, drawing the ire of several UK politicians across different parties.
The billionaire has barely left Trump’s side since election night, even going so far as to crash a dinner between Trump and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Musk may be overstaying his welcome, according to The New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman. She said on a podcast, “Trump does complain a bit to people about how Musk is around a lot.”
