As a former Marine from a dedicated military family, Sean Bielat is no stranger to the discipline it takes to build a company from scratch. Born on Shaw Air Force Base, he grew up hearing about his family members’ valor and dedication to their country. Although both of his grandfathers, father, brother, and uncles all served in the military, he was the first to be commissioned as an officer, serving as an active duty Marine Corps officer for four years and eventually earning the rank of Major in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.

“For each generation of my family, military service has been part of how we developed character and professionalism,” he commented. “And each generation came out of the service with a little more opportunity in front of them. For my family, it’s been part of the ladder of the American dream.”

He eventually channeled his dedication into two campaigns for Congress in 2010 and 2012. Although he lost both of his bids for Massachusetts’ 4th Congressional District seat, including a highly-publicized race against Joseph P. Kennedy III in the latter, Bielat demonstrated the strong belief in performance-based leadership that would guide his company, Endeavor Robotics, after its founding in 2016.

Prior to founding Endeavor Robotics, Bielat had some experience in the robotics field, as he had previously served in a leadership position at the Massachusetts-based iRobot Corporation, where he oversaw the development of the PackBot program, a military defense robotics initiative that eventually became the PackBot series, one of Endeavor Robotics’ flagship product lines. Bielat eventually spun Endeavor Robotics out of iRobot in 2016, with the help of Arlington Capital Partners.

His military experience and strong interest in national defense and security made robotics an ideal field for him, as Endeavor Robotics soon became known for developing military robots that could go places and do tasks too dangerous for humans, such as detonating IEDs. The robots’ potential to save many human lives made the company a favorite of the United States’ Department of Defense, being listed as the DoD’s leading provider of ground robots for land-based operations at the time of its sale to FLIR Systems in 2019.

Even after selling Endeavor Robotics, Bielat has stayed involved in the fields of robotics and national security. He has served as an advisor for companies such as ASYLON and Ghost Robotics and a board member of organizations such as the Association of Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International. He has also worked on government-related defense projects, such as being chosen as NATO Study Chairman for the Industrial Armaments Group and serving as a member of the Massachusetts Military Asset and Security Strategy Task Force from 2018-2022.

Today, Bielat has turned his focus towards supporting America’s European allies in light of the increasing hybrid threat from Russia. “For me, defense of Western democracy is a bedrock component of U.S. national security. Ensuring a strong and secure Europe is simultaneously a moral imperative and deeply intertwined with our own interests,” he argued.

To this end, Bielat has founded OMVP, a company focused on supporting and investing in early-stage European defense technology companies. As the company’s managing partner, Bielat works with defense industry startups in countries such as Poland, the U.K., and Ukraine, helping them build a strong infrastructure for repelling foreign threats. In addition, he currently serves as Executive Chairman of USBid, Inc., a company that supplies electrical components to clients in the healthcare, industrial, automotive, and aerospace industries.

Sean Bielat’s journey in business shows the importance of leaning into what you already understand deeply. Through his experiences in the military, he gained insights that served him well as he pursued business in the defense sector. By building on his existing interests and knowledge base, Bielat was able to leverage his expertise to solve the problems and needs he was uniquely qualified to address.

By serving as a Marine on active duty, he was well-acquainted with the challenges and struggles that troops experience on a day-to-day basis. With the help of cutting-edge technologies such as the latest developments in robotics, Bielat’s businesses have combined science, military tactics, and a healthy respect for military personnel to continue serving America’s interests both at home and abroad.
